Messiah Yeshua and Hanukkah are Connected!

Jewish Menorah Yeshua and Hanukkah

The holiday of Hanukkah, also known as The Feast of Dedication or Feast of the Maccabees begins tonight at sundown.

This holiday is a man-made holiday, not a feast day ordained by God, so it is not mentioned in the Jewish bible; the Torah, the Haftorah or Tanakh, but is celebrated by Jews around the world.  Hanukkah is a sequence of 8 days set aside to praise and thank God for his faithfulness and miraculous power.  The celebration is remembering a victory of the Jews over the Greko/Syrians in 165 B.C.  by the retaking and re-dedication of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.  The highlight of Hanukkah is known as the Miracle of Lights which involves the large 7-branch menorah in the temple.  Read More

Anti-Semantic or anti-Semitic?

Shoah

In our postmodern global community of political correctness, what happens in Europe has a tendency to quickly duplicate itself in America and it is usually not a contribution that would benefit our quickly atrophying Western civilization. This is the case for the latest French educational reform.

The new manuals used by the French educational system for the 2011-2012 school year, preparing last year high school students for their exit exam "Baccalaureat", will look different this year. Adjustments are not necessarily bad and even needed at times, as, to reprise an old Dylan song: " The times they are A-changin". But there are words that are better left untouched. Words that have become part of history and thus have acquired a meaning that sets them apart from other words and even possibly from the original meaning applied to them.

One such word is the word Shoah! Read More

Gilad Shalit: Is He Worth It? Yes I Believe He Is…

sanctified

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Yeshua replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36-40

The prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas which facilitated the release of Gilad Shalit is monumental and deserves deeper reflection than other current events. No doubt Israel’s willingness to trade 1000+ convicted Islamic terrorists for a single Israeli soldier will be looked upon as a watershed event. Some will accuse Israel of insanity, others of pandering. Many questions spring to mind, some of the more obvious being the following: Was this a wise decision? Was the swap politically motivated on the part of Netanyahu and Likud, and if so, to what end? Will this ultimately backfire in our faces, and if so, how soon? Read More

Stop Apartheid!

OK, that title got you reading, so what I really mean is “Stop (with the) Apartheid (rhetoric already)!”. This morning I counter-demonstrated against a group protesting against Israel, and they had “Apartheid” boldly on display. Now, I admit I can be a stickler for words (I am, after all, an author and blogger), maybe even a little OC about them at times. But my thing with “apartheid” is not nitpicking. This is strategic rhetoric designed to invalidate Israel as a Jewish state. Read More
